Take your place among the best in the business, and grow your career with ATW Automation.  Join an environment where a passion for innovation combines with an uncompromised commitment to quality.   Join the Winning Team at ATW Automation, an ATS Automation company, a great place to automate your future!Our Applications Engineering team at ATW Automation in Dayton, OH, is looking for a bright, ambitious Senior Applications Engineer who enjoys team work, client relationships and on-going challenging projects.  This person will perform a wide variety of technological functions in various aspects of mechanical and electrical engineering, primarily in support of design and development of factory automation systems.  Includes preparing and writing innovative detailed proposals for potential customers, working from general automation ideas and concepts.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze customer requirements including risk factors
  • Elevate critical risk issues to management
  • Develop competitive system and station concepts
  • Document pertinent application engineering calculations and data
  • Develop estimates, and meet quotation deadline requirements
  • Lead new order project launches including sales order line up meetings, and participate in the development of a Sales Strategy
  • Coordinate the activities of other Application Engineers, and train Application Engineers
  • Attend RFQ line up meetings
  • Visit customer plants to understand the requirements, convey concepts and develop solutions
  • Materials preparation – graphics, handouts, etc.
  • Review customer requirements and specifications
  • Develop conceptual solutions and alternatives
  • Process flow sequences and strategies
  • Station concepts, including operating sequences, timing charts and actuation definitions
  • Sketches, drawings and design references as required to document the above, direct CAD work and provide presentation materials
  • Obtain vendor quotations on critical equipment, and identify qualified vendors
  • Develop technical specifications, including writing proposal documents
  • Schedule and chair the various new order lineup meetings including the distribution of appropriate documentation
  • Complete standard proposal template selecting from available embedded text
  • Modify standard text as required

  • Complete the cost estimating spreadsheet entering:
    • Application Engineering data for motions and actuations

    • Major purchased items
    • Costs derived from reference design histories
  • Provide to estimating manager for review
    • Completed estimate spreadsheet
    • Purchased equipment quotations
    • System layout and drawings
    • Line up and support as required
    • Insure that cost estimate and final proposal language remain consistent

Qualifications:

  • 4 year Engineering degree preferred
  • 5 years of project experience in automatic assembly or related factory automation:  Welding; Gauging; Machining; Material Handling; Packaging; Testing
  • Good communicator – presentation and technical writing skills
  • Experience in building customer relationships
  • Tolerance for an environment of multiple and changing priorities
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines
  • AutoCAD, Inventor, Solid Works, and MS Office Suite, Hand sketching – 2D and 3D
  • Mechanical drawing and design
  • Controls knowledge
  • Registered Professional Engineer, member of ASME, etc.

Travel:

  • Typical travel requirements are 2-6 days per month in day trips or single overnighters with occasional requirement to be gone for one week or more.
