Duties and Responsibilities

The Systems Developer/Engineer- Senior Network Engineer serves on the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) Information Technology Services (ITS) Infrastructure team and is responsible for updating and enhancing the logical and physical network infrastructure, including hardware vendor selection, core locations, fiber topology, virtual chassis layout (Juniper only) subnet design, and VLAN design. This position also develops, tests, implements, maintains, and documents optimum campus network configurations for Juniper switches and routers, including Routing (SPF and static), Switching (VLANs, trunking, port configuration and security, spanning-tree, BPDU guard), Link Aggregation and Redundancy, Security (ACLs, Routing Policy, Firewall Policy), QoS/CoS, Management (SSH, SNMP, RADIUS), and Virtual Chassis (Juniper); troubleshoots problems related to these configurations; designs, enforces, and maintains interior firewall policy and security, primarily associate with inter-VLAN traffic; coordinates with and assists Enterprise Services with exterior (border) firewall policy and security; installs network hardware into network cabinets, including maintenance and documentation (patch panel layout, local topology, local VLANs, associated IP addresses and subnets); troubleshoots and works with vendors for warranty replacements as needed; develops, tests, implements, maintains, and documents remote location network configurations, including Site-to-Site VPNs, Wireless Bridges and Access Points, and troubleshoots any associated problems; configures Syslog on all network equipment; addresses tickets needing tier two support. This position is in Wooster, Ohio. Occasional travel to the Columbus may be necessary.

Desired Experience

Strong problem solving, customer service and interpersonal skills for dealing with a diverse client base are necessary; A+ and Networking +, JNVIA-Junos, and CCNA experience are desired.

Required Experience

Bachelor’s level degree in computer & information science; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; strong working knowledge of networking concepts (VLANs, Routing, and Firewall security); three or more years of working in IT are required.
