Duties and Responsibilities

This position provides system support and administration of equipment in a heterogeneous Unix and Microsoft (MS) Windows environment within the College of Engineering’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) while managing and meeting compliance and reporting requirements of the university, college, departments and/or centers, as needed; works with a team of Systems Administrators and leads the IT planning, development and operations of the MS client computing and server infrastructure; installs and maintains systems security and integrity elements; configures and manages visualization and storage technologies; identifies and implements strategies and solutions to upgrade, assemble, set up and ensure integrity of day-to-day operations; resolves hardware and software related issues; installs, updates, and maintains third party software as needed for staff and faculty; manages student systems administrators; manages desktop services, user access and accounts on network; assists in auditing, inventory compilation and IT budget; creates internal requisitions, and monitors IT expenditures; compiles information and develops specifications for quotations in support of researchers and faculty; ensures all university, federal and state mandated programs are implemented and maintained; ensures all University and College policies are followed; adheres to Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practice framework in an effort to ensure the availability, security and performance of infrastructure systems and fulfillment of customer Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Position Requirements

Desired Qualifications:

Ability to lift 25 pounds, climb stairs, and have good dexterity; experience with the administration of storage systems; experience with mobile device management using Microsoft Direct Access; experience with enterprise backup solution such as IBM Spectrum Protect; experience with formal Help Desk ticketing system; experience writing advanced PowerShell scripts; ability to provide technical guidance to less experienced peers; experience managing technical staff; industry certifications in one or more of the following: ITIL v3 Foundations, Microsoft MCSA or MCSE or MCP.

Required Experience

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in computer & information science or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Systems administration experience in a heterogeneous Unix and MS Windows environment; experience in advanced MS Windows server administration; experience using PC desktop management software such as SCCM to create and push images, update third-party packages and manage systems; experience managing operating system updates using WSUS; experience managing Active Directory Domains and using Group Policy; experience with the administration of virtual infrastructure.
