Duties and Responsibilities

The Sr. Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing HR related duties at a mid to high level such as Recruiting, Talent Management, Compensation, Labor Relations and Training/Development for one or more division/departments at Miami University and will be the consultant/primary contact regarding matters related to Employment/Human Resources. As the primary contact for a division or multiple divisions at Miami, will partner to learn and understand the needs/issues of the division and assist in developing solutions, plans and strategies to solve them.
Duties/Physical Demands:
Provide consultation to divisions/departments and to other HR staff regarding HR matters such as but not limited to position movements, position elimination, divisional/departmental reorganizations. Participates in and provides guidance related to problem resolution and helps to formulate solution outcomes. Meets with supervisors and staff as necessary and addresses or refers issues as appropriate to subject matter experts. Responds to inquiries regarding employment and compensation policies and procedures, as well as related state and federal laws. Develops and conducts workshops and training seminars for the University community regarding HR services, programs, procedures and guidelines related to employment. Assists with strategies related to communicating HR policies and procedures.
Serves as a mentor and assists with day to day training and development for less experienced HR/Employment Team staff and/or may coordinate work assignments for others in the department.
Responsible for developing process and procedures to enhance working relationships. Lead and/or serve on departmental and cross-departmental committees/working groups.
Will assist assigned divisions or other areas at Miami in recruiting and may interview or assist with the interviewing/hiring processes including conducting reference/background checks Ensures university advertising, posting and selection processes have been followed. Assists in the development of job descriptions, advertising, recruitment, and interview strategies. Coordinates with Employment Director, OEEO and Compensation Director to facilitate discussions and obtain necessary documents and approvals for the hiring/talent management process.
Assists/partners with HR leadership in developing, maintaining and managing the recruiting process, procedures and best practices throughout Miami.
Works closely with HR leadership and internal departmental leaders on day-to-day and special projects. Tracks metrics and strategically presents outcomes to departments with recommendations. Formulates ways to use data to improve services, products and outcomes of the department or organization and strengthen the effectiveness of employee recruitment, and employee engagement. May serve as Departmental Lean Leader.
Interacts with Budget department to develop a knowledge of the position control process, particularly as it relates to areas of responsibility. Ensures that new positions and changes to positions are coded properly. May assist with auditing of position control records. Ensures accuracy of position and posting data processing in position management and applicant tracking. Ensure accuracy of employee data into applicant tracking and HRIS systems.
Position Requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
- PHR, SPHR or CCP certification. Experience in HR setting in a university or public employment setting.
- Lean certification/Lean Leader training and/or knowledge of other process improvement tools or ability and willingness to obtain within 18 months of hire.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or a related field and at least five years of directly related experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Knowledge of related state and federal laws.
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills required. Must be able to communicate effectively at employees at all organizational levels.
- Demonstrated ability to understand the organizations needs and assist in the development of HR related strategies.
