Duties and Responsibilities

Position Overview

The Senior Associate General Counsel provides a high level of professional legal counsel and assistance to clients, focusing on the areas of employee benefits with a particular dedication to the university's Office of Human Resources. Main areas of practice will include employee benefits, such as health and welfare plans, fringe benefits and retirement plans, executive compensation, and related matters as assigned. Provides advice on employment-related tax questions. Drafts and negotiates agreements and plans, policy and program documents. Drafts and negotiates contracts for services and other transactional agreements. Provides advice on regulatory and compliance matters. Performs legal research and analysis.

Position Requirements

REQUIRED Qualifications

  • J.D. and graduate from an accredited law school and be a member of the Ohio bar or eligible to practice law in the state of Ohio within one year or less
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of legal experience in an employee benefits practice.
Required Experience

DESIRED Qualifications

  • Legal experience with employee benefits and tax law matters for universities and/or nonprofits. The Sr. Associate General Counsel position carries the designation of Assistant Attorney General of the State of Ohio. Accordingly, the successful candidate must also be approved by the Ohio Attorney General prior to hire.
