Duties and Responsibilities
As a member of the User Experience (UX) design team, in collaboration with other University Marketing disciplines and campus units, the Sr. UX Designer combines the synergistic practice of aligning business needs and product requirements to create user-focused and intuitive products, interfaces, platforms for mobile and web. The Sr. UX Designer also combines an inspiring visual sensibility, interaction design best practices and user research to enhance Ohio State University's brand image within University Marketing and The Ohio State Digital enterprise.
The ideal candidate demonstrates meticulous attention to detail, cross-disciplinary project leadership, a proactive work style and comfort navigating ambiguous environments. Focused on developing scalable, inspiring and seamless digital solutions, the selected candidate will lead the ideation, creation, and alignment of digital experiences within a fast-moving marketing environment while advising, consulting and partnering across disciplines, including full-stack developers, other designers, project managers, strategists and writers. The Sr. UX designer has demonstrable knowledge and expertise with UX deliverables (i.e. userflows, sitemaps, wireframes, wireflows) and user-research methodologies, will be a champion in design principles, and is able to multi-task projects of varying complexity structures concurrently.
With an expert understanding of product and web design lifecycle, the Sr. UX Designer assists the UX Director in partnering with University Marketing disciplines to align with strategies that enhance omni-channel experiences across the enterprise while possessing the ability to manage time wisely across projects and competing individual/team priorities. They are also expected to exhibit the behaviors associated with the Office of Advancement's core competencies: Leadership, Continuous Improvement, Teamwork and Collaboration, and Communication/Interpersonal Effectiveness.
Duties and Responsibilities
60%: Technical Execution: Ideate and create UX deliverables (sitemaps, wireframes, libraries, user flows, concept maps, wireflows); Design and prototype digital experiences and interactions for effective hand-off to the UI/Digital team to execute visual styling; Documents and communicates technical requirements; Compile deliverable and research findings presentations.
25% Concept and Direction: Plan and facilitate user research, synthesize findings into actionable report
Candidates must submit a portfolio or link to portfolio that demonstrates a fundamental understanding of UX design principles to be considered.
Position Requirements
Desired:
Expert proficiency with Adobe CC and/or SketchApp or similar design tools; Master’s degree in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications) or Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) related field; Experience working in a large matrixed organization; Experience working in higher education.
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications) or Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; 5 years of digital design experience in a professional environment; Working knowledge of UX disciplines including interface design, information architecture, usability and interaction design; Demonstrated expertise of building, implementing and maintaining user-centric omni-channel experiences; Professional working knowledge of user research methodologies, best practices for user research, and ability to persuade others with research findings and recommendations; Proficient in SketchApp and/or Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) or similar design tools; Strong portfolio demonstrating past work experience and relevant, user-centric digital design solutions
