Duties and Responsibilities

The Senior Network Engineer provides engineering support for the production OARnet IP/MPLS backbone. Testing, configuration, and deployment of networking hardware and services. Troubleshooting complex network issues. The Senior Network Engineer will interface with internal and external customers to facilitate network service deployment and problem resolution; will work in a team environment evaluating networking equipment, protocols, and services.

Summary of Duties: The Senior Network Engineer will be designing, deploying, and supporting all aspects of the OARnet DWDM IP/MPLS network. Identify and recommend changes in network infrastructure. Lead interaction with partners to facilitate connectivity to statewide backbone. Evaluate new network products and technologies. Maintain and evaluate network management applications. Identify and report network performance and utilization. Mentoring of junior network staff. Active participation in national and international networking conferences. On Call Support. Will be placed in an on-call rotation for off-hours and weekend break/fix support.

Five years of experience working in a service provider network. Familiar with network monitoring tools and protocols such as traceroute, ping, SNMP, NetFlow, and Nagios. Experience with network security protocols, algorithms, and implementations. C, Python, and shell programming. Experience in troubleshooting and deploying QoS. L3VPN, L2 Circuit, Traffic Engineering, and other MPLS application configuration. Metro Ethernet deployment and troubleshooting experience. Experience with ServiceNow development including API integration and process development

Required Experience

Required

Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Expert level experience with Juniper routing and switching in large scale service provider IP/MPLS network. Design and troubleshooting TCP/IP, IPv4, IPv6, MPLS, IS-IS, OSPF, BGP, MSDP, PIM, IGMP, RSVP, VRRP, and LDP protocols. Python and shell scripting automation in a Unix environment. Thorough understanding of modern forwarding and control plane architectures. Knowledge of wave division multiplexing concepts and components. Strong oral and written communication skills.
