Duties and Responsibilities
Position Overview

The Senior Director of Development will lead alumni fundraising for The Ohio State University’s College of Medicine within the Wexner Medical Center. Serving a new, collaborative and visionary Dean with a hungry, hard-working team of five, this position will oversee fundraising and alumni affairs for the college and personally carry a well-qualified portfolio of major gift prospects.  Major gifts at Ohio State are considered those of $100,000 and above but this leadership position will focus primarily on gifts of $250,000 and above.  The College of Medicine advancement team is exceptionally collaborative and transparent. The Senior Director we are seeking will lead by example as a strong mentor, taking a solid team to the next level and will play an integral role in the planning of the next campaign.

Organizational Overview

This is an exciting time at Ohio State’s College of Medicine.  We currently rank 11th among research medical schools at public universities.  We also house the renowned School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, with top-12 programs nationally and rising in physical therapy and occupational therapy.

Position Requirements

Master’s degree in Finance or Accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; At least 10-15 years of relevant work experience in dynamic and high energy capital markets, treasury management and/or corporate finance environments; considerable capital markets and management experience; strategic or long-range financial planning experience; strong analytical and technical skills with solid working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint; sound, flexible interpersonal skills with the ability to work with all levels of a dynamic university; a “can-do” and enabling attitude, combined with patience, perseverance, the ability to deal constructively with conflict and criticism and a good sense of humor; excellent written and oral communication skills; the highest degree of personal integrity and a strong commitment to and love for The Ohio State University.

Desired:

CFA, or Certified Treasury Professional (CTP); familiarity/knowledge of Workday Finance and ERP system.

Required Experience
  • The baseline of experience we are seeking is a minimum of six years asking for and closing major gifts at the $100,000+ level along with a bachelor’s degree. At least two years of supervisory experience is a must.
  • Experience working closely with high-level volunteers, as well as deans, physicians, provosts and other high-ranking executives will allow you to hit the ground running in building the vital relationships you will need to be successful.
  • The ability to travel and work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends is essential.
