Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for leading a comprehensive EHS program for the University. Represents the University in all matters associated with biosafety and biosecurity, environmental compliance, medical center safety, occupational health and safety, research safety and radiation safety programs and participates in policy determinations on these matters. Responsible for the management and control of administrative services provided to the EHS service area. Coordinates services with other University departments, State of Ohio offices, and other governmental agencies. Manages comprehensive biosafety, biosecurity, environmental, occupational health and safety, research and radiation safety programs by providing technical expertise concerning compliance with local, state and federal regulatory mandates (i.e. ODH, OSHA, EPA, NRC, …); responsible for the management of the hazardous materials response team and participation in the event protection team for the University.

Position Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent; valid Driver's License required; minimum of 10 years environmental health and safety experience at a major research or academic institution required with at least 5 years of management experience  in environmental health and safety in a major research or academic institution also required; experience with progressive responsibility in administrative or management functions preferable in higher education with substantial budget and planning skills strongly preferred;  Professional certification as a CSP or CIH desired.
