Duties and Responsibilities

The Program Coordinator will meet twice per month with each YSP student through the individual, group, and/or classroom advisement process and maintain detailed notes of action steps for each meeting; Track, monitor, and evaluate the academic progress (e.g., course selections, grades, school attendance, etc.) and school attendance of each YSP student by reviewing mid-term and semester grades, prescribing appropriate remedial action (if necessary) and working with appropriate school counselors and/or teachers to ensure good academic standing; develop individualized comprehensive academic plans aligned with OSU admissions standards; assist YSP students with selecting courses consistent with their comprehensive academic plan; maintain strong filing and record keeping system for each YSP student; assist with collecting and interpreting key progress and outcome variables to evaluate the effectiveness of YSP; assist with organizing and providing support for special initiatives and events designed at targeted site and at The Ohio State University; work with campus and off-campus stakeholders to offer special programming outside school setting and hours; educate YSP students and their families about colleges, the college admissions process, trends, procedures, and testing; visit middle schools to meet with students to promote college awareness and preparation; coordinate regional hands-on programming and informational sessions for middle school students; visit middle school classrooms, assemblies, and club meetings to promote YSP and college preparation; represent YSP, as requested by the YSP director and/or senior ODI administration, to potential supporters and other interested parties at targeted school district; build and maintain a supportive relationship with each YSP student starting high school through their college graduation; represent and negotiate on behalf of the YSP student and the parent in the event problems or disputes arise in the areas of academic standing, probation or expulsion, etc; assists with writing and submitting proposals to funding agencies; and attend all mandatory meetings and recommended professional development; and work with closely with YSP leadership to identify any needed vendors, process paperwork, and connect with prospective stakeholders. Possibility exists for additional compensation for summer duties.

Position Requirements

Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; 3-5 years direct work exp with low-income and urban students at the secondary and/or post-secondary level; demonstrative outcomes working with low-income, urban students for college success; knowledge of practices working with urban, low-income students; excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation skills; knowledge of issues and trends in preK-12 urban and higher education; commitment to prof growth; strong collaborative work style and ethic; computer and tech skills; excellent organizational skills and ability to identify strategic processes and form professional relationships with a wide range of stakeholders; familiarity with opportunities and resources that could advance YSP in the school district and local community.
