Duties and Responsibilities

As the senior campus administrator, the Chancellor leads a committed team of faculty and staff dedicated to growing enrollment, retention, completions, and student success by providing accessible and affordable world-class education and training aligned with employer workforce needs and transfer opportunities. The Chancellor consults with Systems Office in Indianapolis, Campus Board of Trustees, and campus Cabinet to: (1) achieve policy objectives and goals; (2) build new and varied community outreach and partnerships (3) expand the availability of the College's instructional and student support services; (4) lead the campus team to successfully meet campus-level metrics and recommend and lead a team to successfully implement strategies in order to meet the needs of a diverse community and student body on campus.
Located in St. Joseph County (population 270,000), the city of South Bend’s community of over 100,000 residents, is not only home to one of Ivy Tech Campus Community College’s South Bend-Elkhart Campus locations, but also to regional Indiana University and Purdue Polytechnic campuses, the University of Notre Dame, four smaller private Colleges/Universities, and excellent cultural events and museums (e.g. The History Museum, the Studebaker National Museum, Morris Performing Arts Center). Just 95 miles east of Chicago and 45 minutes from Lake Michigan, South Bend is the 4th largest city in Indiana and serves as the hub for economic and cultural revitalization in the Northern Indiana area.
Our second location in Elkhart County (population 200,000), is nestled in the city of Goshen with a community of over 33,000 residents. The cities of Elkhart and Goshen, IN are anchor points for Elkhart County and provide all the opportunities of city living with the charm and hospitality of a family friendly community. This community is strongly manufacturing based, known as the RV capital of the world.
The South Bend-Elkhart Campus generally serves St. Joseph, Marshall, and Elkhart counties, part of Indiana’s broader Economic Growth Region 2 (EGR 2). The EGR 2 has over 620,000 residents, with an unemployment rate of 3.2 percent.
The primary Indiana economic sectors served by the South Bend-Elkhart Campus in St. Joseph and Elkhart counties include manufacturing, health care, retail trade, and education.
In order to address the area’s workforce needs and better serve the students and community, Ivy Tech Community College South Bend-Elkhart Campus with the support of community partnerships, federal and state grants, and private sector donations continues to invest in the expansion and reshaping of educational and training programs that support economic growth and future prosperity for residents and businesses.
The Chancellor receives general administrative oversight from the Vice President of Operations and the advisory guidance of the Campus Board of Trustees.
Position Requirements
Minimum qualifications:
- Master's Degree.
- Three or more years of substantial and successful leadership and management experience at the executive level required, preferably in a community college or other post-secondary institutions.
- Possesses excellent organizational, planning, evaluation, interpersonal and communication skills and have an ability and willingness to travel.
- Evidence of working with supporting adult students' success preferred.
- Adept at resolving individual and group conflicts and must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proven ability to identify key issues and to carry forward an idea or project from conception to execution.
- Track record of thinking conceptually and mastering complex subject matter quickly.
- Good judgment, discretion, tact and the ability to work easily with senior leaders within the higher education, charitable, government, and business sectors.
- Ability to partner well with colleagues both in-and outside of the organization.
- Ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees and which every individual feels respected and valued.
