Duties and Responsibilities

The Ohio State University is on the cusp of kicking off the public phase of a new development campaign following the most successful fundraising effort in its 146-year history. The But for Ohio State Campaign concluded in 2016, having raised over $3 billion from more than 750,000 donors, shattering the goal of $2.5 billion. An even more ambitious goal will be announced this fall, with new and exciting pillars propping up the efforts to move the university forward. Maintaining this momentum is only possible with the talented people who are the heart and soul of the Office of Advancement.

The Director of Human Resources will lead the HR functions for the Office of Advancement’s Development, Alumni Relations, University Marketing, and Advancement Strategy units. Reporting to the Vice President, Advancement Strategy and Administration, and serving as a strategic partner to the Senior Vice President of Advancement’s leadership team, the Director of Human Resources will provide progressive leadership by fostering innovation through organizational improvement and change for a workforce of approximately 500 staff members. The Director will also lead a strong team of eight HR professionals and set an overall direction that supports the vision, mission, and strategies of the Advancement organization.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic, progressive and experienced HR professional who possesses exceptional leadership skills, and business acumen. The candidate will: demonstrate a passion for delivering high-quality service and moving organizations forward through the power of people; manage large-scale projects with diverse groups of people; provide a high level of strategic thinking, initiative, and motivation; and work both independently and cooperatively with various levels of staff and administrators.

Position Requirements

The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; bring 10 years of progressively responsible HR experience; five years of HR leadership experience that includes strategic planning and implementation as well as leading organizational change in complex environments; and leadership of HR professionals.
