Duties and Responsibilities

Position Overview

The Ohio State University Alumni Association is excited to announce a brand-new opportunity for a Donor Acquisition Strategist. In October of 2019, the university publicly launched Time and Change: The Ohio State Campaign. One of the many ambitious goals set for this campaign is to inspire one million donors to invest in Ohio State.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the selected individual to focus purely on new donor acquisition. He or she will be expected to take ownership of this brand-new initiative and shape the program as they need in order to produce the results necessary to achieve our campaign goals.

The Donor Acquisition Strategist will develop and implement short and long-term plans to secure new donors through alumni, friends, volunteers, and corporations that will support Ohio State’s current campaign and will be expected to develop effective philanthropic arguments and showcase the work happening across the university to gain the most effective outcomes while being measured on established metrics.

The selected individual will build and maintain key relationships with internal partners across the university. They will be expected to create and execute their plans and strategies by utilizing the necessary resources to be successful.  They will have an omnichannel mindset while focusing on three main areas: 1) idea generation and acquisition strategy, 2) audience insights and analytics, and 3) execution. Work will be completed with minimal supervision, in a timely manner, and include successfully driving projects to completion while partnering with multiple stakeholders.

Performance Objectives

First 1-3 months
  • Assess the overall structure, teams, resources, etc. of the OSUAA and Advancement team
  • Build positive relationships with key internal faculty, staff and external stakeholders
  • Understand the dynamics of partners across the university and make recommendations for the larger university audience based on supported research and identified metrics.
  • Identify donor values, capacity, interests and key triggers to begin to understand your key audience and identify the best strategies to encourage their philanthropic engagement
  • Start to drive the strategy, development, and execution of campaigns, creating a highly effective and targeted approach to help drive new donor acquisition growth
First 3-6 months
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to maximize the effectiveness of the campaigns you are creating
  • Create annual and quarterly marketing plans and targets for acquisition segment to focus on new donor acquisition and accelerate existing opportunities.
  • Continually measure, monitor and drive improvement in program approaches and employ industry best practices while looking for opportunities to increase effectiveness and efficiency to meet goals.
First 12 months
  • Follow through with reporting on successes and failures to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Reflect on successes to identify opportunities to scale campaigns and approaches.
  • Evaluate resources used to accomplish goals within first year to determine future needs to continue donor acquisition growth.
Position Requirements

Desired Experience includes:

  • 8+ years of experience in marketing with emphasis on digital, proven success in building a program from the ground up, experience working independently within large, complex organizations that require multi-layer and/or cross-functional approvals, and experience working in sales, hospital marketing, advocacy and/or agencies.
Required Experience

REQUIRED Qualifications

  • The selected candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in marketing with emphasis on digital and to include 3 years focused on acquisition marketing and/or fundraising.
  • Demonstrated ability to envision, create, and execute complex, data-driven marketing and/or fundraising campaigns.
  • Proven success in a metrics-driven environment to include scaling campaigns, accomplishing intended outcomes and impact to the business, and meeting goals.
