Duties and Responsibilities

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is seeking an experienced revenue cycle leader to serve as Director of Patient Financial Services.  This position will serve a key role in the college with responsibility for directing all revenue cycle functions for the College’s outpatient clinics.  Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, this is a high-impact position in a fast-paced high-volume environment that ensures timeliness, accuracy, and compliance in all billing and collection activities to maximize reimbursements that contribute to the financial strength of the college.

Under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, the position is responsible for providing strategic and tactical leadership along with continually assessing and improving the revenue cycle functions for the College of Dentistry’s outpatient clinics.  This position is specifically responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring all related accounting processes and procedures; creating, implementing and auditing patient management processes to ensure timeliness and accuracy in order to maximize reimbursement; directing staff to provide a high level of patient service and satisfaction; driving efficiency in operations and ensuring best practices in billing and collections that are in compliance with university, professional, state, and federal standards and all managed care agreements; establishing performance indicator metrics and reports and other benchmarks to assess performance; overseeing department goals, accounts receivables, cash budgets and forecasts; establishing fee-setting strategies and procedures; acting as liaison with third-party payers;  providing data, reports and analyses of patient and third- party payers to determine trends and implementing plans of action to address potential issues and opportunities.

Additionally, the Director will provide strong leadership and will recruit, train, develop and mentor a team that demonstrates strong financial acumen, outstanding patient service, personal accountability, and professionalism to achieve excellent patient satisfaction.

 

Position Requirements

The successful candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills that demonstrate a strong ability to communicate with individuals at all levels; the ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data to reach sound conclusions and recommendations; advanced  understanding of electronic health care record, patient management, and medical/dental billing systems; and demonstrated, highly effective leadership skills.

Required

Bachelor’s degree in health care administration, accounting, business or a related field; 8-10 years of related experience; extensive knowledge of revenue cycle concepts and functions, medical or dental coding and handling complex claims: strong leadership skills; demonstrated ability to manage, train and develop staff; ability to research and effectively interpret and comply with relevant federal/state health care regulations; excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; experience in creating and improving processes, strong understanding of managed care contracts; and advanced knowledge of electronic health record and patient management systems.

Desired

Master’s degree; over 10 years’ experience; extensive knowledge of ICD-9-CM & ICD-10-CM coding, managed care contract negotiations.
