Duties and Responsibilities

The Wexner Medical Center Donor Experience team collaborates with colleagues from across the medical center, health science colleges, advancement, and the University to create opportunities to engage donors and show appreciation and impact. The Director of Donor Experience directs, implements and manages a comprehensive stewardship program for the Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University.  Creates and implements a strategic stewardship plan that bridges one gift to the other and creates a continuum of giving to the Wexner Medical Center, health science colleges and University.  In addition to driving strategy for and managing the donor experience team, the director will also have the responsibility of working with development officers and creating individualized stewardship plans for principle giving level donors.

The Director is expected to have strong verbal and written communication skills.  Reporting to the AVP for WMC Development, the Director serves on the leadership team for the Development Operations area and provides guidance and counsel to the AVP on issues related to donor relations and stewardship.  All members of Advancement are part of creating an inclusive culture that inspires an exceptionally diverse and talented team and are measured on their adherence to the following core competencies:  leadership, continuous improvement, teamwork and collaboration, and communication/interpersonal effectiveness.

Develops and maintains a comprehensive stewardship program for OSUMC leadership and major donors by partnering with development officers, communications staff, University Development and Medical Center Leadership.  Directs Medical Center stewardship efforts in coordination with the James and University Development and assumes responsibility for implementing creative stewardship strategies.

Manages a donor experience staff of six or more staff members; Hires, trains, and supervises professional staff; establishes and monitors goals, provides performance feedback and coaching, and supports professional development; completes annual performance management procedures; manages performance issues; is responsible for using independent, consistent and fair judgement in exercising authority; develops procedures, assigns and prioritizes work, and ensures that the resources needed to accomplish work are provided; Prepares annual stewardship budget.

Serves as liaison to multiple Advancement and Medical Center teams, including, but not limited to central Donor Experience, WMC Development/Communications, WMC Advancement Services; collaborates to develop and deliver meaningful stewardship experiences to donors at all levels of the organization; provides excellent donor relationship services as a primary contact for donors and internal partners.

Position Requirements

3-5 years management experience in development/donor relations; experience working for a large university-related medical center or healthcare fundraising organization; demonstrated success in managing complex programs and projects; experience in higher education advancement, particularly major gift fundraising or stewardship.  Experience in volunteer management.  Experience in budget preparation

Required Experience

Required

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Five years of experience in development and stewardship activities working with major donors.   2 years management experience.
