Duties and Responsibilities

The Associate Director of Advancement Communications’ primary responsibilities will be ensuring that donor proposals, stewardship content, letters and other materials needed by our Advancement leaders are produced at the highest level in a timely fashion; and to produce compelling deliverables – including donor proposals and more – for central and academic partners.

Reporting to the Director, Advancement Communications, the Associate Director is a member of a proactive team that works to foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, responsiveness and flexibility, enabling the group to address challenges and offer creative solutions. They must be a master storyteller and editor, someone who can combine creative writing and visuals, with research and interviews to elicit emotion from an audience of one or many.

Success in this position will be influenced by the candidate’s ability to work collaboratively with administrators, creative directors and designers, and the ability to tackle projects of all sizes on tight deadlines. Responsibilities

Works directly with the Advancement Communications leadership team and unit-based development colleagues to create highly customized communications strategies and solutions to effectively cultivate, solicit and steward donors and prospects. Researches, writes, organizes and edits high-level correspondence on behalf of the office of the Senior Vice President for Advancement, and other department leaders as needed.

Develops strategy for and creates persuasive, donor-centered content (text, photos, graphics, videos, etc.) that resonates with the university’s alumni and friends and inspires them to give further to Ohio State, including Annual Giving campaigns and personalized proposals, reports, and more that strictly adhere to editorial style. Works with subject matter experts throughout the university to gather and confirm information. Aligns work with university, campaign and unit, priority and project-specific messaging. Implements university style, voice and tone, and brand standards across all work. Collaborates with designers when needed to ensure high-impact materials.

Position Requirements

Desired:

Possess a comprehensive multimedia skill set that includes photo and video editing, and digital content creation/graphic design. 7 years of professional writing/strategic communications experience; 5 years of proposal/persuasive writing; 3 years of executive communications experience. 3 years of experience with Adobe products, including InDesign and Photoshop.

Required Experience

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; 3 years of professional writing/strategic communications experience; advanced storytelling, research and customer service skills; demonstrated superior organizational, collaborative, writing and interpersonal skills.
